My passion is wine! All types, all styles, crafted by premier class wineries who produce honest wines. I’m especially fond of Italian vino, from the Dolomites to Sicily. I’m also crazy in love with the wines of the Iberian Peninsula, Oregon, Champagne and on and on. Perhaps you’ve come here to find bottles you’ve never tried, or maybe for a seasoned veteran’s view. To learn something new, or perhaps school up about a bottling you’ve followed for years but didn’t know much about. I’m here to share the love of all things vinous! Thank you for swinging by, I hope you enjoy this site, and please be sure to sign up by entering your email on the right. For more on moi click here. Cheers!
Smokin’ Hot Verdicchio Riserva! February, 2022
2017 La Marca di San Michele, Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva, DOCG Classico, Passolento (RT94) Embracing a philosophy of no herbicides, pesticides, glyphosates, or fertilizers, La Marca di San Michele focuses its efforts on one monopol cru where they craft world class wines. This bottling is made from 100% Verdicchio and is fermented in 10 hl Slavonian botti where it matures “sur lie” for 12 months with full malolactic fermentation and is then aged for 12 months in bottle. This is the big brother to the stainless steel aged Capovolto and exceeds its Riserva designation. Showing a medium straw hue, the florally driven bouquet wafts up notes of apple blossom, Meyer lemon, petrichor, and hints of salinity that lead to an exquisitely balanced, artfully crafted palate that hovers weightlessly in the mouth. Everything is in harmony and is first class in every measure. Drink now-2027+
Clouet’s Spectacular Un Jour de 1911 February, 2022
NV André Clouet, Grand Cru, Brut Blanc de Noir, Un Jour de 1911 (RT96) Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, disgorged 3/26/2021. This bottling is composed of 50% 2008 and 50% of a 10 year old solera (think Jacques Selosse). A magnificent bottling with its copper-tinged gold hue delivers the finest, miniscule bubbles and a gorgeous, sexy bouquet layered with rich mousse, brioche, dried red currant and honied chalk dust. With time in the glass crushed limestone and creamy hazelnut emerge. Stunning and wonderfully balanced, the mouthfeel is equally alluring with a rich, decadent character, soft acidity, and bubbly deliciousness. One of the finest Non-Vintage champagnes I’ve had in sometime. Drink now-2028+
