2022 Povero, Nebbiolo Langhe (RT91) An impressive, top value crafted from the most famous of the varieties that are native to Piedmont, Povero’s 2022 Nebbiolo Langhe shows an impressive level of detail given the challenging vintage conditions. Showing a relatively deep russet hue, the aromatics are lifted with notes of ripe plums, black cherry compote, spiced cranberry, sous bois and dried fall herbs. The palate is dosed with generous ripe fruit, soft acidity and gentle tannins. This wine is built on a foundation of its ripe fruit. While the history of this winery can be traced back to the early 1800s, Cantine Povero was officially launched in its current form in 1987 as Tenuta Fratelli Povero. Today it continues to produce a wide variety of bottlings as a family owned operation. They practice responsible vineyard management while employing natural, environmentally friendly technologies without the use of herbicides and chemical fertilizers. In 2019 their vineyards obtained organic certification. This bottling is traditionally vinified using gentle pressing, fermentation in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks for 12-15 days followed by malolactic fermentation. It is finally aged in used oak cask for 9 months and then bottled.
