2021 Giulia Negri, Barolo, Marassio (RT96) Deep in its ruby-garnet shade, this shows a sinewy, muscular side of Giulia Negri’s practice of the winemaking craft and is built in a seriously structured style. Dark brooding notes of Morello cherry liqueur, mentholated plums, balsam, brambles, hints of goudron and dried herbs comprise this power packed bouquet. The palate is mesmerizing with layers of refined fruit that convey the epitome of elegance. The acidity in this 2021 Marassio is hidden behind a wall of massive fruit, the tannins are perfectly ripe and sweet. Truly magnificent, a wine that will reward proper cellaring. Drink 2029-2050+ Tasted October 2025

Sourced from the highest vineyard in all of Barolo at 536 meters, this is also Negri’s highest vineyard plantings. This vineyard is one hectare in size and was planted in 2003 on Tortonian marl, clay, loam and sandy soils. After traditional, gentle pressing, fermentation takes place with only indigenous yeasts (no inoculation) in 60-HL conical wooden vats for 40 days, followed by aging for 30 months in 25-HL Slavonian oak cask. No filtering takes place on bottling; this is another miniscule production wine.
