2020 Giulia Negri, Barolo, Serradenari (RT95) This wine is a bit deeper hued than the La Tartufaia and delivers utterly amazing, deeply nuanced aromatics that soar with notes of black cherry liqueur, mentholated spiced Ariel plum, dried violets, aromatic cedar, and layers of ground minerals. This is impressively masculine; you can feel the power of its high elevation vineyard fruit. The palate is ripe and succulent with optimally ripe berries woven into a fabric of weightlessness with generous acidity and sexy, suave tannins. This is a handsome wine that is artfully crafted. Drink 2027-2050 Tasted October 2025
Sourced from the highest vineyard in all of Barolo at 520 meters, Serradenari is positioned facing southwest for optimal ripening. This vineyard is one hectare in size and was planted in 2003 on Tortonian marl, clay, loam and sandy soils. After traditional, gentle pressing, fermentation takes place with only indigenous yeasts (no inoculation) in 60-HL conical wooden vats for 40 days, followed by aging for 30 months in 25-HL Slavonian oak cask. No filtering takes place on this bottling; this is another miniscule production wine.
