2021 Poggio delle Robinie, Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC (RT93) The charismatic medium ruby-hued 2021 is a shining star crafted in a traditional style. It wafts up old world notes of plum liqueur, Morello cherry compote, dried figs and dates, caramelized brown sugar and toasted hazels nuts that take this to bona fide “Baby Amarone” status. The palate is midweight and layered with late harvest fruit, refreshing acidity and soft, supple tannins. This is an artfully crafted, traditionally-styled red that pairs perfectly with grilled wild game, hearty pasta dishes with meat sauces, spicy salami, smoked meats and cheese palates. Seriously overdelivering for the price point, this is a Rick Thompson Wine Hot Pick! You should be able to find this in the sub-to-mid $20s price range. Drink now-2031+ Tasted April 2025

A blend of 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone and 10% Negrara, the fruit is sourced from vineyards near the small village of Valgatara, just west of well-known village of Negrar di Valpolicella. After initial fermentation the juice rests over Amarone lees where secondary fermentation takes place, which supports additional structure and intensity. It is then transferred to used barrique where it rests for 8 months before final bottling.
