2021 Vik, Millahue, Cachapoal Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon, Omega (RT93) The densely hued 2021 Omega is a beautifully crafted red blend and completely over-delivers for the price point. Every detail is meticulously measured and the balance is impressive as it leads to a long, enduring finish. Notes of bright ripe blueberry compote, Empress plum, black currant, a pinch of light roast coffee and a puff of clay dust appear in the bouquet, while the palate is wonderfully balanced, mid-weight and elegant with soft acidity and ripe, seamless tannins. This is very impressive, undoubtedly the result of masterful winemaking and perfectly ripe fruit. Displaying superb gravitas and highly recommended! The 2021 Omega is the second vintage of this wine and is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Carmenere and 12% Syrah aged for 18 months in second passage French oak barriques with very light toast ala “Barroir style”. It shows no visible signs of any toast, only the elegance and smoothness that long aging in oak imparts. Chief Winemaker Cristián Vallejo oversees VIK’s viticulture and viniculture, ensuring grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation occurs naturally with no added yeasts. The 12 valleys that compose Vik’s natural landscape are influenced by their temperate Mediterranean climate with a distinct marine influence. Each micro-valley offers its own exposure and soils, and are cooled by a combination of Pacific coastal breezes, the Humboldt current and winds from high up in the Andes mountains. Together they provide this world class terroir with the complex finesse that makes these wines unique.
