2008 Tenuta della Terre Nere, Etna Rosso, Santo Spirito (RT95) Age 16 is looking damn fine on the 2008 Santo Spirito, the visuals remain fresh and youthful with its translucent ruby hue. The impressive bouquet is equally youthful, energized and lively as it balances tasty ripe fruit with a smattering of tertiary development. Notes of raspberry liqueur, sour cherry, spicy salumi and hints of volcanic ash lead to a soft, charming palate with round fruit and suave, succulent tannins. This wine is enroute along an extended cellaring journey and showing how great wine making combined with a fine vineyard site planted with old albarello (bush-trained) vines can produce superb wine. Drink now-2035(+) Tasted August 2024

This wine is 100% Nerello Mascalese and sourced from a 7 acre plot in Castiglione di Sicilia of old vines ranging from 60-100+ years at a rather high elevation of 700-800 meters. The soils here are almost exclusively volcanic ash. Aged in an equal combination of cask, barrique and tonneaux, annual production is now around 9,000 bottles.
