2018 Florio, Marsala Superiore DOC, Vecchioflorio, Dry (RT91) Here is Florio’s more classical expression of Marsala, crafted from 100% Grillo and aged for 2-plus years in oak cask. Like the Sweet version, this too is available in 375 ml and 750 ml bottles, and to not get too preachy, I always suggest buying the larger size so you can savor some of this uber delicious Marsala while you are preparing your chicken Marsala, or other Marsala-based recipe. The hue is deeper and darker than the “Sweet” counterpart, with an overall translucent deeply burnished toffee hue. Charismatic notes of stewed apricot, hints of prune, walnut liqueur, fruit cake and sweet Christmas spice emerge. The bouquet is mesmerizing for this wine’s price point, while the palate is equally complex and alluring. Downright delicious, perfect for cooking and in your glass.
