Tenuta Argentiera – October 2021

2019 Tenuta Argentiera, Bolgheri Rosso DOC, Poggio al Ginepri (RT92+) An impressive introductory rosso blended from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are pressed gently with each variety vinified separately, then half of the wine is aged in 225 liter used barriques of French and Hungarian origin, while the second half is aged to stainless to preserve its fresh, bright style. Finally, the aged wine Is blended. The result is a delicious wine that resonates red cherry, currants, hints of green tobacco, wild herbs and a whisp of coastal freshness. On the palate it truly shines with an artful balance of ripe fruit, bright acidity, and suave tannins. This will be intriguing to follow over the coming years. An outstanding vintage of this proven, workhorse blend. Drink now-2029(+?)

2018 Tenuta Argentiera, Bolgheri Rosso DOC, Villa Donoratico (RT93+) Another outstanding blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the grapes are vinified separate from one another, and post malolactic fermentation and blending, most of the wine – 80% – is aged in 500 liter Austrian tonneaux, with the remaining aged in 225 liter French barrique, a large portion of which are neutral. The result is a deep, penetrating bouquet with layers of ripe, delicious blue berries, blackberries, Tuscan herbal brush spice, and an underpinning of minerality. The palate is decadently rich while hiding its structure neatly. Sumptuous acidity keeps it fresh while gentle waves of ripe tannin punctuate the finish convincingly. This artfully crafted wine presentations something that’s ready to savor in its youth, yet can cellar quite well. Drink 2022-2032
