2009 Paitin, Barbaresco Riserva, Sori’ Paitin Vecchie Vigne (RT94+) The 2009 Vecchie Vigne Riserva is the last vintage to be bottled prior to the advent of Dante Scaglione being brought in as their consulting oenologist, thus is the last vintage bottled that employed the use of more modern techniques like quick fermentation/maceration, barriques, etc. Like the 2007s and 8s, this too has a deep hue for Nebbiolo, especially when compared to their bottling of 2010 and all more recent vintages. The initial aromatics of toasted oak quickly dissipate, revealing classic, masculine notes of black cherry, spiced plums, hints of goudron and sous bois. The palate is powerful and mighty, showing its impressive strength and depth of fruit, backed by delicious acidity and soft, yet still well defined, sweet tannins. This is another superb vintage of Paitin’s flagship Riserva! Drink now (with ample oxygenation)-2039+ Tasted October 2023
