2016 Torremilanos, Ribera del Duero, Colección (RT95) One of the current flagship wines of this estate. Crafted from organically and biodynamically farmed, pure, ancient 100+ year old Tempranillo vines and aged 30 months in mostly used French oak and finished with long bottle aging prior to being released by the winery. The most brooding and darkest of the current Torremilanos line-up, spiced black plums, blackberry smoke, boysenberry compote, tobacco, sous bois, and a note of oak dominate to aromatics. With time in the glass the oak dissipates revealing a palate that is seductively fruity, yet impressively concentrated, and keyed into the old vines and their perfect acidity and sweet, ripe tannins. This is a magnificent vintage for Colección and should age for the long haul. Pairs fabulously with grilled steaks, sausages, and hearty tomato sauce based recipes.
