2005 Codero di Montezemolo, Barolo, Bricco Gattera (RT94) This historic wine is sourced from a single vineyard in the shadow of the famed, majestic Lebanon Cedar perched on the pinnacled hilltop of the namesake La Morra vineyard. With its deep ruby hue, it has held its color with just the slightest thinning at the rim. The bouquet delivers modernly polished notes of dark red cherry, blackberry, eucalyptus, lilacs and a whisp of mineral dust. This wine is packed with ripe, succulent fruit on the palate, is caressingly smooth and elegant, and the soft acids create a smooth silky mouthfeel. The tannins are a thing of beauty in their ripeness and sophisticated texture. The wine finishes with artfully integrated French oak, so smooth there’s no noticeable char, while it merely creates a modern persona. This is drinking gorgeously and is now in its prime drinking window, where it should continue to hang well for many years to come. Showing only the slightest bit of tertiary notes.
