1996 Bruno Giacosa, Barbaresco, Rabajà (RT97) This recent bottle was Slow O’d in the morning and blossomed to achieve magical status by the time it was served. Showing a light garnet hue, the aromatics were focused, precise and power packed as notes of dried morello cherry, spiced plum, rose water, sottobosco, white truffle and wet earth deliver impressive complexity. The palate is equally anointed with the precise touch of Bruno Giacosa as every detail is precisely delivered in the mouthfeel. Gorgeous laser sharp fruit, amazingly well integrated acidity, and perfectly ripe tannins. This has developed into a magical representation of the first vintage Giacosa bottled from this particular plot, which sits sandwiched between the upper edge of Marchesi di Gresy’s monopol holdings in Martinenga and the lower edge of the Asili vineyard. A mind blowing showing this evening. Drink now-2041+, tasted September 2023
