2006 G. D. Vajra, Langhe Freisa, Kyè (RT94+) Vajra’s 2006 Freisa Kye has evolved relatively rapidly from its early post release days to where it now stands as it approaches age ten. Still maintaining its dense, deep ruby hue, the candied fruit essence evident at release has morphed toward semi-mature notes of red spicy fruits, worn leather and hints of tar and minerals. Full bodied and firm on the palate, the wine resembles premier quality Barbera more than Nebbiolo, but makes no issue of its Piedmontese roots. Followed over the course of a few nights by simply recorking and leaving it in the cellar, it held up beautifully, fading ever-so-slightly on night three. Undoubtedly one of the iconic Freisa’s produced today, a prolifically fine showing. Drink 2016-2026
