1997 Altesino, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (RT96) Shared with friends this past week over a superb grilled rack of lamb and scallops dinner. Bought on release and stored in my cellar since. Knowing how ready/mature the majority of 1997 Brunello are, I simply pulled the cork n’ poured and right out of the starting gate this was opulent, forward, and quick to reveal its inner beauty. With a soaring bouquet layered with notes of black cherry, hints of aged balsamic, dark roast coffee, spicy sottobosco and a sublime mineral streak. Utterly smooth, elegant, and refined on its palate delivery, this is clearly in its peak drinking window. In a word, superb! Drink 2016-2026
