2016 Castelfeder, Chardonnay Riserva, Burgum Novum (RT94) The 2016 Chardonnay Burgum Novum is a prolific example of Alto Adige’s potential for white grapes, as it set a standard of excellence with its balance of fruit and its deft oak elevage. Notes of peach, yellow pear, ripe lemon, hints of butter and baking spice create a panorama of attractive notes. The mouthfeel is equally attractive, as round fruit and soft acidity with a punctuation mark created by the oak aging makes its mark. This reminds me of a high quality Willamette Valley Chardonnay but is a bit heavier on its feet. Plenty delicious, this is a limited production wine that’s worth seeking out. Drink now-2030
