2015 Scacciadiavoli, Sagrantino di Montefalco (RT92+) Having followed this producer for many years, over time their vinification has improved dramatically. Today they have throttled back on the new oak aspect noticeably and the wines now show a more transparent style for this bruiser of a grape. Evidence is in the elevage: 50% aged in barrels, of which a mere 15% is new, and the other half in large tanks made of untoasted French oak, for 20 months. Dark with a deep, impenetrable hue, the bouquet delivers bright red cherries, brambles, minerality and a hint of forest floor. The palate reveals a taught, structured character, with notable minerality and a soft tannic finish. Drink 2020-2030+
