2009 Domaine Serene, Willamette Valley, Pinot Noir, Yamhill Cuvee (RT94) From an esteemed, storied producer comes this delicious Pinot Noir, which by all accounts reveals classic, Oregon characteristics in this mature, evolved state. Sourced from a variety of vineyards in Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, and Yamhill-Carlton AVA, it’s aged for one year in French oak, of which about 50% is new, 50%-ish used. Pungent, tertiary-evolved complex aromatics layered with dried raspberry, strawberry liqueur, mentholated cranberry, cinnamon and anise with a waft of truffle and an overall note of minerality convey the magnificence of mature Pinot Noir. The palate density is sublime and soft with beautiful fruit and just enough acidity to maintain its freshness. Resolved tannins present a divine closure. This is a lovely expression of the varied soil types of Willamette Valley terroir and reinforces why we cellar wines. As it approaches age 14 the potential has been reached. Drink now-2030(+?)
