2010 Pian dell’Orino, Rosso di Montalcino, Bassolino (RT93) I’ve never been lured by the phrase “Baby Brunello” as applied to Rosso di Montalcino, but here is a standout Rosso that exceeds any expectations and to which it intrinsically applies. Its deep ruby garnet hue surprises, as one should normally expect some fruit fade at age 12, but not here. The bouquet exudes notes of black cherry, dusty berries, Tuscan spice, hints of sous bois and dried strawberries. The athletically sculpted, rich and fully fruited palate reveals perfectly ripe and fresh berry fruit, wonderful acidity and sweet ripe tannins. Wow, this is the real deal! I may just be short-changing the score by a point, it’s that impressive! Drink now-2026+
