2021 La Spinetta, Timarasso, Derthona (RT92+) Timarsso is a grape that in recent years has seen renewed popularity, but I routinely remind wine shoppers it’s a variety that requires cellaring patience and can be slow to evolve in the broader context of white varieties. While the 2021 La Spinetta bottling is drinking well at a young age, better than many competitors’ bottlings, the appearance of the + after my score indicates it will experience improvement and added depth with proper cellaring, in essence becoming a more interesting wine. The start date of my suggested drinking window is likely on the short side, but wine lovers today are increasingly looking for immediate gratification. Here a medium straw hue with burnished gold reflections marks the wine. Distinct aromatics waft from the glass as notes of lemon, honey dew, honey suckle, allspice and sweet pomelo lead to a palate that is acid-driven, displaying a core of twangy fruit. I strongly suggest giving this some cellar time, but it can be enjoyed now. Drink 2027-2036+
