2021 Finca Torremilanos, Ribero del Duero DO, Montecristillo Rosado (RT89) Certified organic and biodynamic, works well for vegans. No sulfur is used with this bottling. This is 96% Tempranillo with 4% other non-identified varieties blended in and reveals a certain masculinity typical of Rosados from this part of Spain, mainly due to its aging in barrique, but also influenced by the maceration time frame. Notes of dark strawberry, dried raspberry, mulberry and orange zest lead to a mouthful of rich fruit. The texture is mouthcoating and sumptuous with soft tannins present. The style here is rich and somewhat masculine, this is a rosé for those who prefer more deeply nuanced, weightier rosé. Drink now
2020 Finca Torremilanos, Ribera del Duero DO, Montecristillo (RT91) Biodynamic Certified, this work horse expression is almost always 100% Tempranillo from 20 to 35-year-old vines, however, in this vintage a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon was blended in. Aged 4 months in used French and American oak barrels. Crafted in a delicious, easy drinking style that’s forgiving and round, layered with terroir driven fruit and a splash of minerality. Dark, deep ruby, notes of blackberry, black cherry, wet rock and masculine dark florals lead to a clean, elegant, sumptuous mouthfeel. An excellent vintage for this wine and the least rustic I can remember. It’s curb appeal and terrific price make it a Top Value! Drink now–2028
2019 Finca Torremilanos, Ribera del Duero DO, Cantos (RT92) Crafted in the house style, this is certified organic and biodynamic and well suited for vegans. A lovely blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Merlot that hits a chord with devout wine aficionados! I’m thinking there’s something alluring about the addition of that dollop of Merlot to the blend! Aged for 12 months in used French and American barriques. Deep ruby with purplish tinges, the Estate-sourced fruit reveals lovely finesse, a characteristic I find very attractive. Displays wonderfully ripe fruit, buttressed by fresh acidity and a sweet tannic finish that adds punctuation to a great presentation, while the dollop of Merlot adds a smidge of Bordeaux-like character. This is the antithesis of Ribera del Duero. Another enchanting vintage for Los Cantos! Drink now-2029+
2018 Finca Torremilanos, Ribera del Duero DO, Crianza (RT93) Certified Organic and Vegan friendly, this is 95% Tempranillo blended with 5% Caberent of an average age of 50 years and aged for 24 months in mostly used French & American oak barrique. This is a serious Crianza as the addition of Cabernet firms up the structure nicely, while also enhancing the aromatic lift! Red cherry fruit, tobacco, and hints of cedar build a core of aromatic intrigue while the palate is loaded with delicious fruit, fresh acidity and sweet tannin. This harmonic wine creates a sense of magnetic draw that has you returning for sip after sip. This is a handsome, structured Crianza that’s a joy to savor! Drink 2024-2034+
2019 Finca Torremilanos, Ribera del Duero DO, Cyclo (RT94+) This is one of Torremilanos’ flagship bottlings and it shines again in the 2019 vintage. Blended from a selection of their three oldest vineyards with fruit from 90-160 year-old vines. A blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Garancha and 2% Tempranillo Blanco crafted in a psydo-Cote Rotie style with the Blanco adding superb aromatic delineation. 100% certified organic and biodynamic and suitable for Vegans. Aged 22 months in casks that are crafted from the estate cooperage. The bouquet is deep and broodingly dark, layered with gob-smacking, delicious blackberry, succulent black cherry, dried blueberry, ripe plums and rich, dark chocolate. The exotic profile echoes into the palate, as the richness is mind-blowing, yet buttressed with bright, refreshing acidity. This is an impressive wine! Drink now-2034+
