2009 Mastroberardino, Taurasi Riserva, Radici (RT95+) Deep, dark ruby, yet it maintains its classic, traditional translucence. Red raspberry, Marasca cherry, layers of fresh white flowers, hints of rose hips and crisp fall forest floor emerge from the glass. At age 13 this wine remains mostly unevolved and showing only the slightest inklings of tertiary evolution. On the palate is where it truly shows the magic of Mastroberardino’s tannin management. Where most young Taurasi’s show impressive power combined with often course tannins, here the tannins are sweet, ripe, and amazingly elegant conveying a level of finesse that challenges the imagination. It’s combination of near weightlessness, balanced with ripe fruit and magnificent acidity create a level of sheer majesty. This will be highly interesting to follow over the coming years and has the potential to grow in its quality conveyance. Drink now-2040+
