2007 Felsina, Toscana IGT, Fontalloro (RT94) From Felsina comes this stunning IGT that was one of the early Super Tuscan’s going back to its first vintage in 1983. 100% Sangiovese harvested from vineyards that straddle the border of Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. Deep brooding Berardenga fruit is the theme here as notes of black cherry, mentholated black berry, damp forest floor smattered with Tuscan spice and brambly underbrush reveals a sense of place. The palate is supple, soft and seductively attractive with luxurious ripe fruit, sweet acidity and ripe, soft tannins. This is a gorgeous expression of Tuscan wine and is in its early prime drinking window. Drink now-2032+

2001 Salvatore Molettieri, Taurasi Riserva DOCG, Cinque Querce (RT96) At age 20 this magnificent wine has blossomed in a stellar way, delivering waves of mentholated black plum, black cherry, dried rose petal, smoke and herbal notes of oregano and ash-tinged dust. The palate is wonderfully balanced with superb delineation of its fruit, bright acidity and sweet ripe tannin with a slightly drying presentation remaining. Now in its prime drinking window, this will continue to show well and slowly evolve for a minimum of 20 years, perhaps longer. The bouquet is so alluring I could smell it all day without every taking a sip. Drink now-2040+
