2010 Cantina Gulfi, Sicilia IGT, NeroSanloré (RT95) I adore the Nero d’Avola single vineyard bottlings that Gulfi makes, all four from vineyards near the Ionian Sea north of the village of Pachino. All are certified organic. This is one of the most impressive bottlings I’ve had from Gulfi thus far, showing the power, structure, and finesse of this benchmark vintage. With its deep russet hue, it remains compact and wound up tight, taking its time to reveal its inner workings. Time in the glass allows to reveal notes of black plum, blackberry, dried herbs, cedar bark and hints of gravel dust. The mouthfeel is generously fruit driven, but the structure stands proud with foundational acidity and perfectly ripe tannins. This is smashingly delicious and will age extremely well considering most bottlings of this varietal rarely make it past 10 years in the cellar. Drink now-2035+
