2009 Rocca di Montegrossi, Chianti Classico DOCG, Vigneto San Marcellino (RT95) Crafted from vineyards surrounding the San Marcellino church, this is a blend of 95% Sangiovese with 5% Pugnitello, aged in medium toast Allier barrique for at least 24 months. At age 13 the Vigneto San Marcellino explodes on the first sip displaying impressive depth and dimension. Deep and dense, and showing a brooding dark ruby hue, yet maintaining its translucence, it balances perfectly ripe fruit with expressive terroir as notes of plum and blackberry accented with savory spice, herbs and forest floor blast from the glass. The palate is rich and ripe and packed with fruit, as its attractive, acid-driven mineral thrust keeps it dancing in your mouth. A superb food wine, this is now in its peak drinking window and will continue to show well for years to come. This bottling is now labeled a Gran Selezione. Drink now-2034+
