2018 Piancornello, Rosso di Montalcino (RT92+) Translucent light ruby, this tasty wine is currently on the young side showing primary and secondary development on the evolution curve. The capable winemaking shines through with delicate notes of Marasca cherry, dusty red berries, a hint of Tuscan scruff and a pinch of savory spice. The palate balances on a thin rope of weightlessness, lithe with fresh acidity and ripe, clean tannins. Drinking beautifully now, I look forward to a few years of cellaring to see what tertiary evolution brings out of the shadows. A light, ethereal, elegant rosso. Drink now-2028
2016 Piancornello, Brunello di Montalcino (RT95+) The recently released 2016 Brunello is a power packed, gorgeously crafted, masterpiece of winemaking. Translucent medium ruby, the aromatics are compact and brooding with notes of black cherry, red currants, hints of saddle leather, spice, dried herbs and crushed stones. The palate shows regal balance with airy fruit, shaping mineral-acid thrust, and sweet, sultry tannins. Already drinking well, but the best is yet to come for this magnificent wine. An additional 5-10 years of cellaring should bring it to early peak drinking allowing the magnificence of the vintage and impressive attention to detail to shine. Drink now (with plenty of air)-2040+
